SFTS: Stand For The Silent
Founded in 2010, Stand for the Silent is a 501(c)(3) non-profit born from the compassion of high school students in Oklahoma City, OK. They were deeply moved by the devastating loss of Ty Field-Smalley, the 11-year-old son of Kirk and Laura Smalley, who died by suicide after enduring more than two years of relentless bullying and being suspended for defending himself. Determined to honor Ty’s memory, Stand for the Silent became a platform for Kirk and Laura to share their story, raise awareness, and provide education and resources to prevent similar tragedies.
Since May 2010, Kirk and Laura have traveled to more than 6,700 schools, connecting with over 4.5 million students across the country. Their tireless dedication earned national recognition on March 10, 2011, when they met privately with President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama at The White House before participating in the inaugural White House Conference on Bullying. Today, their mission remains steadfast: to inspire change, foster kindness, and protect young lives from the lasting harm of bullying.
